What if the trees knew that our most
complex thoughts would be written
on slices of themselves, thinner
than a layer of their bark?
Or do they somehow already know
and that is why they supply
our every breath
as we give them ours?
When the sun and the rain collide,
we give the other our powers –
as we exist in the rhythms
with the Liturgies of the Hours.
